Automotive Test Engineer

Job Description:

Collaborate across multiple engineering functions and work directly with major OEM engineering teams on a passenger vehicle R&D program in Ohio. This on-site role is responsible for planning, scheduling, and executing vehicle tests, analyzing results, and preparing technical reports. Testing activities include vehicle track testing, wind tunnel testing, and dynamometer testing.

  • On-site embedded activity with OE passenger vehicle manufacturer - automotive technology development areas include aerodynamic efficiency and mechanical drag.
  • Long-term scheduling, coordination between multiple groups/stakeholders, and detailed test planning.
  • Thorough vehicle test preparation to ensure accurate specification of all pertinent hardware and software.
  • Instrumentation and data acquisition installation and setup.
  • Test equipment and methods include chassis dynamometer, wind tunnel, tire rolling resistance, and full vehicle track testing among other tools.
  • Responsibility for conducting data analysis using MS Excel and proprietary software.
  • Data summarization for reporting to team members and management – primarily via MS PowerPoint and MS Teams.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and proposing technical solutions.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Willingness to be located in Marysville, Ohio with regular travel to Western Pennsylvania
  • 2-3 years of experience in a relevant engineering or technical environment
  • Previous project management experience, including gathering requirements, developing plans, managing multiple concurrent projects and priorities, executing work, and delivering solutions to meet project objectives
  • Other experience must include:
    • Understanding of engineering test methods including planning, execution, and results reporting
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a large team - excellent communication skills
    • Working knowledge of automotive data acquisition systems, CAN bus communications; experience with CAN analysis or reverse engineering strongly preferred - Vector, ETAS/INCA, Ipetronik, Intrepid Systems and Kvaser are used
    • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical problems using logical, structured approaches
    • Solid software experience – MS Office Tools, Excel VBA programming, CAD experience, and MATLAB.
    • Proficiency in PowerPoint with ability to clearly and concisely present technical information to project management and executive groups
    • Broad understanding of automotive technologies with a passion to learn through hands-on testing and development support
