CGR Claims Back-to-Back P5 Finishes at Desert X Prix
Extreme E
The No. 99 GMC HUMMER EV Chip Ganassi Racing team finished P5 in Rounds 1 and 2 of Extreme E's opening weekend in Saudi Arabia. It was the first time that drivers RJ Anderson and Amanda Sorensen shared driving duties in the electric off-road series.
R.01: After winning their first Qualifying heat, Anderson and Sorensen would finish P3 in Q2 to make it into the Grand Finals on Saturday.
R.02: A P2 finish in both Qualifying heats on Sunday set the stage for the team's second consecutive Grand Final appearance. After drawing the furthermost starting
gate, Anderson raced his way to P4 in the opening lap of the four lap race before making the driver switch with Sorensen. Sorensen, who is competing in her first
Extreme E race weekend, battled with five time Dakar Rally winner Nasser
Al-Attiyah on her way to P5.
RJ Anderson
"That's a wrap on Round 2 here in Saudi. We had a strategy, stuck
to it, but it just didn't pan out. I feel like we had way more speed in the
HUMMER EV than the two fifth-place finishes show but making the finals is a
positive first step. We're not happy about fifth but I think this is a strong
foundation to build on for the rest of the season."
Amanda Sorensen
"I had a great time racing this weeekend with RJ and the team. I
learned a lot about strategy and staying focused especially when you make
mistakes out there, you just have to put them behind you. The team made we feel
very welcomed and I appreciate that everyone on the team takes my opinion and
feedback into consideration. It motivates me to get back to work and get
ready for Scotland."
UP NEXT: The series now heads to the Hydro X Prix in
Scotland for Rounds 2 and 3 from May 13 - 14. To learn more, visit Extreme-E.com.
