Chip Ganassi Racing Heads to Extreme E’s Copper X
Prix Seeking 2nd Victory
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Extreme E team heads to
Antofagasta, Chile for the fourth round of the Extreme E season
from September 24 – 25. The No. 99 GMC HUMMER EV team of Sara Price
and Kyle LeDuc sit second in the championship standings following
their victory in Sardinia, Italy back in July.
Vital points will be on offer during the Copper X Prix as the
Chip Ganassi Racing team, Acciona | Sainz XE, and X44 are all
within a point of each other going into the weekend.
Known as the driest place on earth, Antofagasta will provide a
variety of on-track challenges because of its extreme ecosystem.
The race will take place near the Centinela Mine, one of the
largest copper mines in the world, which lends itself to elevation changes,
jumps, step downs and areas of rocky terrain.
Track conditions will offer a stark contrast from the team’s most
recent races in Sardinia, Italy, where CGR picked up their
first victory of the season. While the island of Sardinia has a
more oceanic ecosystem, it has not rained in the Atacama Desert of
Chile since rainfall tracking began many decades ago.
This race shines light on Chile as one of the world’s largest
copper producers in the world. Electric vehicles use more than
double the copper of an internal combustion engine automobile, and
the metal is also used heavily in EV infrastructure. Chile is also
home to Antofagasta Minerals, a company paving the way within
sustainable mining by making changes to their production systems,
increasing their use of renewable energy sources, and reducing
their emissions.
Vote here for Price and LeDuc to
hand-pick their starting spot in the final race through GRIDPLAY.
Fans can vote up to twice a day starting on
September 21.
