Journie Driving Academy Members Meet INDYCAR Drivers, Enjoy Day at the Track in Toronto
INDYCAR
TORONTO (July 20, 2024) – Three Canadian youth karting prospects received a day they will never forget on Friday at the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto. Drivers in Journie Rewards’ Journie Driving Academy attended practice for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES event, enjoying a day at the track, visiting the INDYCAR paddock, and meeting Kyffin Simpson, driver of the No. 4 Journie Rewards Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, and Marcus Armstrong, driver of the No. 11 On The Run CGR Honda.
Journie Driving Academy is a youth karting program helping youth drivers in Canada as they begin their journey through the racing ranks. The goal of the Academy is to help make motorsports more accessible and affordable for the next generation of racers.
Drivers Marley Chaudhary, Nigel Longley and Sloan Sterling represent the first Journie Driving Academy class.
Marley, from Bowmanville, Ontario, drives for Kevin Glover Racing. He is in his third season of karting, his first at the junior level. Journie’s support means he can attend more big races this season.
Nigel, from Hamilton, Ontario, drives for Prime Powerteam. He’s scored multiple podium finishes in his karting career. His mom and grandfather support his dreams, working as mechanics on his kart, and Journie’s support takes significant pressure off of the family as he continues.
Sloan, from Ajax, Ontario, drives for Ontario Pro Racing. She scored a third place finish last season in the junior championship at MIKA. Journie’s support will help ease financial burdens she and her team faced this year.
Notes of Interest:
- Supporting Canadian Motorsports: Journie is committed to helping grow the next generation of Canadian motorsports with the Journie Driving Academy. Although Marley, Nigel and Sloan share dreams of one day competing in INDYCAR, Formula One or IMSA, all three drivers compete in Canadian youth karting circuits.
- Making a Difference: Journie Rewards provided all drivers with financial support, a new fire suit, kart decals, and a helmet as the drivers continue their karting journey. The drivers will also receive mentorship opportunities with Chip Ganassi Racing’s No. 4 Journie Rewards INDYCAR team.
- Journie on Track: The karting prospects join Simpson in carrying the Journie Rewards livery. Eleven races into his first INDYCAR season, Simpson is second in the Rookie of the Year standings and 19th overall in the championship — a campaign that includes leading laps in the 108th Indianapolis 500 in May. Two-time INDYCAR Champion Alex Palou debuted the Journie livery last season in Toronto, finishing second in the No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda.
