No. 01 Cadillac Team Wraps Up Battle On The Bricks Weekend with P7 Finish
IMSA
After two hours and 40 minutes of hard racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course, Sebastien Bourdais, Renger van der Zande and the No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R team recorded a P7 finish in IMSA's Battle On The Bricks race.
Bourdais piloted the No. 01 Cadillac to the green flag from a second row starting position. Although, on lap one, the No. 24 made contact with the rear of the No. 01 as the front of the field exited turn one.
The Cadillac spun on-track and was forced to return to the race a lap down. The team then went to work to close the gap to the front of the field. While they finished the race in P7, the team was still able to cross the finish line on the lead lap.
“The run down to Turn 1 at the start is so long and you get a crazy amount of tow. They were all bunched to the right, so the only option was to go left. You know at that point that you’re in a three-wide situation and I was just trying to hold my position. In the process, I got turned and got hit and we had to come in for a new nose and got a drive-thru," said Bourdais. "It was a frustrating race after the team prepared hard for this race. We’ll keep at it and hope to finish on a better note at Petit.”
"Hopefully, we can improve at the upcoming test and understand a little more what the tire does and take it from there at Petit Le Mans,” added van der Zande.
Next Up: The No. 01 Cadillac crew will next head to Road Atlanta for the last race of the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The 10-hour Petit Le Mans race is set for Saturday, October 14.
